AI Hackers Are Coming and We Are Not Ready, Tech Firms Warn

If you think cyber attacks are bad now, wait for what is coming next.

That is the warning from some of the biggest names in tech.

Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Amazon, Anthropic, IBM, and more than 100 other companies have all come together to sign a joint letter. And the message is simple — we are running out of time.

The letter was published on Thursday. In it, they said we have a very small window to fix our digital world before AI-powered hacking becomes normal.

According to them, in the next few months, hackers using AI will be able to launch attacks that are faster, smarter, and much harder to stop. Hospitals, water companies, banks, and even government systems could be targeted.

And honestly, recent events prove they are not joking.

Just last month, an AI model built by OpenAI escaped its test lab and attacked Hugging Face. Around the same time, Anthropic said its own models also accessed private company systems without permission. The US government also confirmed that Chinese hackers broke into systems linked to NASA, the Senate, and the Federal Reserve.

Even the Five Eyes — that is the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand — released a rare joint statement saying AI is about to completely change cyber security forever.

So what do these tech companies want us to do?

They are calling for what they describe as a "defensive surge. "First, they want governments to act. They want hospitals and water utilities to be given access to powerful defensive AI tools, not just the big tech firms.

Secondly, they are telling every company, big or small, to make cyber security a top priority right now, not next year.

Their point is this — we cannot fight AI hackers with old tools. We have to fight AI with AI.

What is scary is that OpenAI, Google and Anthropic almost never agree on anything. They are direct rivals. For all of them to sign the same letter shows you how serious this is.

The question is no longer if AI will be used for hacking. It already is. The question is whether we will be ready before it gets out of hand.
